Saida Tour

Saida: A 6,000-year-old city which features the Saida Sea Castle and the Old City of Saida. Saida has been inhabited since 4000 BC and is believed to have Phoenician origins. It was destroyed twice by war between the 7th and 4th centuries BC and once by an earthquake in the 6th century AD. Saida has many historic places, among them Eshmoun Temple, the only Phoenician temple excavated, where some of the most beautiful carvings and sculptures were found.

Eshmoun Temple: This Phoenician temple complex, dedicated to the healing god Eshmoun, is the only Phoenician site in Lebanon that has retained more than its foundation stones. Its oldest remains date back to the sixth century BC, to the Neo-Babylonian period. It had been used throughout the ages & periods (since Babylonian through Persian, Greek & Roman till the Byzantine epoch) as a worshiping place. According to Genesis, it is the firstborn of Canaan.

Khan El Franj: Khan el Franj is one of the many khans, or caravansaries, built by Fakhreddine II for merchants and their goods. Today, it is being renovated to serve as Sidon’s cultural center.

Maghdousheh: Maghdoucheh's most famous landmark is the tower of Our Lady of Mantara, which is a Marian shrine built above the cave that is believed to have been the resting place of the Virgin Mary as she waited for Jesus while he preached in Sidon.
